I remove my watch
there’s no need for it here
I hear it ticking
across the silence of this cabin
The birds loop time endlessly
their repetition
dulling me to the passing of time
tuning me into infinity
Away from here
back in the city
my watch never leaves my wrist
as I confine myself
to a strict schedule
a full task list
Here I have no tasks
other than to write often
write well
and spend minutes or hours
staring out the window
letting nature
tell me its stories
I am born to write
to record stories on paper
but sometimes
its nice to just listen
to hold the stories
in my heart instead
